Research published in the International Journal of Dental Research relating to studies on worldwide data on sugar consumption shows a significant correlation between this and an increasing trend in the need for dental treatment. It has shown that if we lower our sugar consumption to the 50g per day as recommended by the World Health Organisation, we could end up spending £70 less per year on dental treatment.
A common misconception is that the type of sugar makes a difference – unfortunately not. For example, chocolate can be considered as damaging to our teeth as honey!
Here at Malden Dental Care, we work hard to provide our patients with the best advice on preventing dental diseases ranging from giving bespoke advice and working closely with our hygienist, to providing helpful free information on our website and in the surgery waiting room.
